Becoming Avalon—our dream in the making.
"And then, surprisingly, we discovered that following our joy wasn’t the risk we had been told—it was the most certain and joy-filled path we could ever walk.
And the peace, it's here too."
10 years ago- He was moving nicely through his career as a Naval Engineer, and I owned a successful online company. But it wasn't what brought us joy. So instead, we decided to pursue our purpose. It was messy, and we often wondered if we were crazy.
Part of chasing our joy happened to be chasing golden wagging tails.
Ten short years later—after a decade of uncomfortable choices and unexplainable synchronicities that helped us along the path every time we were brave—here we are. We are living on our dream acreage while also dreaming it into being a little more each year.
I mother my 4 children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 13 chickens, and 3 rabbits, and he creates all sorts of wonderful things out of wood. Like archways, picket fences, extraordinary gates and magical wands.
I also love to write, teach my children piano (and maybe one day teach other children piano again), and I believe deeply in self-led meditation.
The clues are usually found in the very things that bring us quiet joy.

The #1 Rule I have needed to learn to find my way home:
Nothing about my life is in the way or irrelevant.
As we moved on to the acreage we started to pay attention to two specific things.
What lit us up and felt like an "I'd love to" rather than "I should."
What Life had written into our story.
What lit me up was golden retrievers
And what life had written into my story was autism
How fascinating that these things were not irrelevant or separate but connected & a clue to my path & purpose.
Everyone who visits here feels it.
They feel the land, the space, the air. They are experiencing the feeling of a cultivated and intentional life.
The land itself has become a sanctuary where our visitors step into a slowed-down rhythm and finally catch their breath, as we have.
Since moving here, I have become deeply interested in gardening and truly appreciate the nature all around me. By slowing my own rhythm down, I lowered the background noise of life. That is exactly how I adjusted my frequency to my children's—allowing me to start hearing my autistic children's fields. It used to annoy me that my daughter moved slowly, until I realized all that truly annoyed me was how much I was rushing through my one precious life. Autistic children often communicate on wavelengths that the fast-paced, noisy world completely misses, Golden Retrievers are quite similar ;)
We already know the entire plan when we are children. We just spent years dismissing our deepest joys as irrelevant clues.
